Thanksgiving is HERE!

Thanksgiving is just beside the corner! Next thursday, November 26 is Thanksgiving Day, a traditional celebration which took place to give thanks for the good harvest and in general, to life. The first thanksgiving celebration took place in 1621, at the Plymouth Plantation, where the first pilgrims in America gave thanks for the harvest and health. These pilgrims had to survive a very harsh winter where many people died, so they were extremely thankful for having survived. The feast lasted for three days, and there was enough food for 90 indians and 53 pilgrims. The menu consisted of turkey or any other fowl, boiled pumpkin, duck, geese, venison, fish, lobster, clams, swan, berries, dried fruit, pumpkin, squash, and many more vegetables. Today, the menu consists of turkey, potatoes and apple pie, and even though the celebration no longer has the objective of giving thanks, the spirit of the first pilgrims is still preserved.

My Summer Vacations

Sun, water, beach; summer, that was the only thing I was looking forwards to when the year ended. I wanted to meet with friends, stay long hours in the water and roast myself in the sun. Time fled and, without noticing I was well into summer. In what seemed as a couple of days I had already gone to a rafting camp in France, I had been in a tennis stage and was now in Laredo, pasing the long July days with my friends, canoing, sailing and simply, beaching. July ccame to an end, and one of my Laredo friends invited me to go with him a but more towards the Equator, that is, Cádiz. There, even though mosquitoes bit us all over, we had a great time.

Summer was already on the highway, and before it ended I still had one last big event, a cruise through th Aegan Sea, stopping at some beautiful Greek islands. The day came and we flew from Madrid to Athens, where we had the opportunity to see the Parthenon and later on went to the port, where the enormous cruise awaited us. After a dinner which semed a banquet we left Athens and headed for Mykonnos, the first island on our intinerary. There, the crystalline waters greeted us, and after a walk around the small village, we took a taxi to a small, beautiful cape where we admired the colorful fish in the water. We went to many other places, such as Rhodas, Dubrovnik and Santorini, in which we had the opportunity to see a live volcano. Apart from the visit, I also had a great time on board the boat. There was a great theater, gym, pools and whirpools, climbing wall and disco apart from many other things and with other teenagers on the boat, we made quite a big group of friends. We became 20 and had a great time together, attending the shows and ended each day with a grand finale at the disco. In general, I can affirm that these year's vacations have been simply GREAT. However, all things come to an end, and here we are again, back at school, and we'll try and make it, as amusing as posssible.

European Elections

Yesterday, June 7, European elections took place in Spain and in other European countries. From the beginning, participation in these elections was expected to be very low, and at the end there was a participation of 46%, 1 tenth more than in the last 2004 ones. In total, 43.23% of the people voted PP, 38.51% voted PSOE, 2.87% voted UPyD and the remaining votes went for IU, PNV and CEU.

More especifically, in the Basque Country, 32.95%, 133541 votes went for the PNV, 27.66%, 112072 votes went for the PSOE, and 15.83%, 64158 votes went for the PP.

However, with the low participation (46%) compared to the 76% of participation for the general elections, it is difficult to get a solid impression of what people really are thinking.

WEB PALETTE

THERE ARE 216 WEB SAFE COLORS WHICH YOU CAN SEE IN ALL COMPUTERS.

Additive Color System RGB

The additive color system involves light emitted directly from a source, before an object reflects the light. The additive reproduction process mixes various amounts of red, green and blue light to produce other colors. Combining one of these additive primary colors with another produces the additive secondary colors cyan, magenta, yellow. Combining all three primary colors produces white.

TV's and computer monitors use RGB. Thousands of red, green and blue phosphor dots make up the images on monitors. These dots produce light when activated electronically, and the combinations of these red, green and blue dots produce all the colors on a video monitor. Because the dots are so small and close together, we do not see them individually, but see the colors formed by the mixture of light.

THE SCIENCE OF COLOR

Colors would not be visible without light because color is light either reflected off of objects we see or viewed directly from the light source. When light passes through a prism, the light beam changes direction, and the wavelengths are separated, causing the prism to produce the colors.

The primary pigment colors are red, yellow and blue, however, the primary colors of light are red, green (not yellow) and blue, called RGB. The pigment color system does not apply to computer monitors because colors are created on monitors by adding light. Black is the absence of light and therefore the absence of color. Secondary colors, such as cyan, magenta and yellow, are created by combining the primary colors. White is achieved by adding the three primary colors together in equal amounts.

There is a third color system called subtractive, called CMYK. The primary colors of the subtractive system are cyan (C), magenta (M) and yellow (Y), the same colors that are the secondary colors of the RGB system. The letter "K" in CMYK stands for black. The secondary colors of the subtractive system are red, green and blue, the primary colors of the additive system.

Another "boring" Monday

Monday, January 26th. Another monotonous day, I thought. The alarm clock screamed at 7:00 in the morning, I showered with sleepy eyes and I raced to the bus stop, with a tired feeeling inside my body. However, that was about to change, as I saw when we arrived to school. The bus doors opened, and we all uneagerly left to our homeroom classes. But, oh, what a surprise, there was no electricity in the entire school!! The hateful Monday was begining to have a twist, and soon the word began to spread around that they were going to evacuate the school. Emotion was boiling amongst all of us, and soon the boiring Monday turned to be an emotion-full friday. However, how did the school end up without electricity?
Well, it all started the weekend before. On Friday, authorities started alerting citizens that a cyclone was entering the Iberic Peninsula through Galicia, carrying winds of about 180km/hr. The forecast was right. At about 3 o-clock in the morniong on Saturday, furious winds swept the Basque Country, and from my house in Bilbao, we could see water from the river being carried by ferocious winds accross the streets. Next morning, when I went outside, it seemed as if a terrible hurricane had just passed by; trees were teared apart, trash containers were overturned, and the city was in chaos.
However, nobody expected that even the school's roof would be carried by the wind to a nearby farm, and the remaining roof was damaged, menacing with falling. It was because of this, and the fact that there was no electricity, that the school principals; Mr. Jenkins and Mr. West decided to evacuate the school. However, the organization of the evacuation was awful. Instead of calling the buses, they had the children call their parents, and if they couldn't come and pick them up, they had to leave with friends. However, I really don't know if it was impossible for the buses to come. At the end, it was a terrific Friday, sorry, Monday.
